10 Questions You Must Ask
When Selecting a Senior Living Community

First - Plan Ahead

Many people have to choose a senior living residence in the midst of a crisis and don’t have to time to explore their options. It is best if you can prepare ahead before being forced to make a quick decision.

When possible, visit at least two times at varying times throughout the day. Visit at least one time when the “boss” is usually in, but also visit in the evening or weekend when there is typically less management on site.

Ten Questions You Must Ask

Develop a list of questions you want to ask in advance.

  • Is the food good? Who prepares the food? Where is it prepared? Ask residents you see during the tour if they like the food. Current residents of senior living communities often rate meals as their #1 indicator of liking their community.
  • How long have the staff worked there? What are their qualifications? How does the company ensure employee job satisfaction and longevity? Numerous industry studies have concluded that stable staffing directly contributes to the quality of care and services provided.
